There is variety of food in Tanzania range form meat to fruits. Some western foods are difficult to find locally (herbal tea, soy products and specialty items). You may want to bring some of the items with you as well as comfort foods (like chocolate), and high-energy foods (Power bars, Gatorade, etc.).
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea are provided on the trek. With every meals you will have a bowl of fruits this could be either bananas, oranges, papayas or watermelon. In additional you will have a selection of hot drinks like coffee, tea or hot chocolate with your meal. Breakfasts are typically eggs, toast, bacon/sausages and fruits along with a selection of hot or cold drinks.
On the first day will be roasted chicken, bread roll, fruits and juice. Other lunches will be some combination of bread, cheese, cucumbers and tomatoes,potatoes of your choice, fruits, snacks and hot or cold drinks.
For starter you will have soup of your choice with bread , followed by main meal and dessert.
Vegetarian dishes and other special diets can be accommodated. Please let us know ahead of time and also remind your Guide during your trek briefing. Protein options may be minimal on a vegetarian diet, so you may want to bring protein supplements.
Because of the exercise and high altitude, you are recommended that you drink at least 3 liters of water a day. Water will be purified at each camp and it is safe to drink it. Altitude may diminish your appetite, however it is very important to keep eating. |
