Days 3: Moorland
After early breakfast, you will start a long trek through moorland (6-7 hours) to Shira One Camp (3550m).
Day 4 :Shira Plateau
After spending the night in Shira plateau, you will start another long day (8 to 9 hours) leaving the moorland plateau, towards Lava Tower Junction (4550m) where we have a rest and lunch. You will then descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco Valley (3900m) for a memorable SUNSET, dinner and overnight.
Day 5 After 2 long days of trekking, you start a bit late trekking on volcanic scree towards “the last water point” in a narrow valley to Karanga Camp (4000m). The days trek takes 4-5 hours, so you will have time to take optional late afternoon walks up the Karanga Valley to acclimatize.
Day 6- You start on a steep walk out of the Karanga Valley, towards the Barafu Camp (3 -4 hours). Once at Barafu Camp (4600m) we advice you to prepare all your gear for the final ascent (remember new batteries for those memorable photographs) and rest early.
Day 7- You will rise early at around 11:30 in the morning, and have some tea/coffee with biscuits and by midnight you should have started the final ascent. The steep trek is aided by well graded zigzags and slowly you will approach Stella Point after about 6 hours (5735m). After enjoying the sunrise over Mawenzi while resting, you will shortly begin your final 2 hours ascent to Uhuru Peak (5896m) for a memorable accomplishment!!
You then descend back to Barafu Camp, and after a short rest and refreshments, you will head down to Mweka High Camp (3800m) for overnight.
Day 8- Proceed down through the forest to Mweka Gate (1650m) where you will register your name and collect your certificates, then drive to your hotel for a hot shower and cold refreshments!!
Day 9- Transfer to the airport or start your next tour |
