ZANZIBAR

Zanzibar lies about 35 kilometres off the coast of mainland Tanzania and its crystal clear waters, glorious beaches and exotic culture make it one of the most alluring holiday destinations on the African coast . The island is a superb destination in its own right and also makes an excellent extension to a safari holiday.

Zanzibar is one of the best beaches in the world. Portuguese invasion and control of the Swahili Coast in the late 16th century ended the golden age of the archipelago, although the Omani Arabs returned to power less than a century later.

Zanzibar have narrow streets, spectacular mosques and cathedrals. Remnants of a painful and bloody history of the slave trade, ruthless monarchs and of 4000 years of trade and culture exchange with ancient Persia, China, Greece and the Roman Empire.

For such a small Island, Zanzibar is full of history from ancient Arab and Persian emigrants to bloody wars and revolutions.

There are varieties of activities which can be arranged in Zanzibar, apart from enjoying sun bathing on its sandy beaches or swimming in its warm turquoise waters. Activities can be arranged, depending on the side of the island that you want to visit.
Excursions and places to visit
  • North Coast -The north part is the best part of the island to go and relax, swim and sunbathe, it has smooth beaches and white sands. Diving can also be arranged here.
  • East Coast -Coral reefs and sand bars are found here. Low tide reveals small pools of starfish, small minnows, and anemones. 
  • West Coast - This is the historical part of Zanzibar which has a Stone Town dominating most of the west coastline. Apart from the historical activities, there is a Marine park not far from Stone Town.
  • South Coast Menai Bay Conservation Area is situated on the South coast. A visit to this side of the island is a must. This coast will take you through the famous Jozani Forest, where the rare Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey are found
