MACHAME ROUTE
6 days + 2 nights accomodation from $1300  and $180 for extra day

Machame route is also called the Whiskey Route. This route takes a minimum of 6 days with longer hiking distances and a steeper summit ascent than the Marangu Route. There are no sleeping huts, so climbers sleep in tents.

This route is more beautiful and a higher percentage of climbers reaches the summit. Machame route is  easy and is more scenic than Marangu Route. It starts on the north side of the mountain and you descend down to Mweka on the south side of the mountain. On the first day the route is a drier with little rainforest (or mud).

Day 1: Moshi
Picked up and transfer to hotel in Moshi .

Day 2:Machame Gate
Transfer to Machame Gate at 1800m and the steep trail will lead through natural rain forest to a campsite Machame Hut laying low in a ridge, (3000m, 5h.)

Day 3: Moorland
Trek up a moorland ridge through giant heathers. A rocky surface begins before levelling out on the Shira Plateau. (3840m, 4-5h.).

Day 4 : Barranco Campsite
Continue up this rocky path which leads east up towards the Lava Tower (views of the Breach Wall). Then a gradual descent towards to Barranco campsite(3950m, 4-5h.).

Day 5: Karanga valley Campsite
Trek to the top of the Great Barranco and then the terrain changes to screes and ridges to the Karanga Valley campsite (4000m,3h)

Day 6: Barafu Hut
The trail continues up a ridge to a campsite by the Barafu Hut, an airy location with little signs vegetation (4600m, 3h.)

Day 7 Mweka Hut 
Wake up just before midnight for coffee, departing afterwards and ascend up towards to Stella Point (5725m,6h.) then to Uhuru Peak (Approx 40 mins). Descend to the Barafu Hut for a rest and brunch then proceed down to Mweka Hut at 3100m, (11-14h total walking time).

Day 8: Machame Gate
A 4 hour descent through beautiful forest brings you to the Park Gate. Drive back to the Hotel for a good HOT shower and COLD refreshments.!!

Day 9: Moshi
Proceed with your next tour/transfer to airport.
