What currency should I carry with me.?
Tanzania official currency is the Tanzania Shilling. Smaller amounts of money are usually paid in Shilling, whereas larger amounts of money are paid in US$ in some hotels. Foreign currency can be exchanged at any branch of the commercial banks or through a BUREAUX – de – CHANGE. Travellers cheques can be exchanged in most banks in the main City such as Dar es salaam. Please ask what commission and charges will be deducted prior to transaction. Travelers from the US are advised to bring US$ in currency; make sure that the bills you bring are dated 1995 or later, as currency dated earlier may be rejected by currency exchange places. You will get a better exchange rate for 50 and 100 dollar bills than for smaller bills. There are several banks where you can use ATMs. Visa card is the most widely accepted credit card. Q. What document are required for entry into the Country.? Q. Can I use internet/Phone/send postcards.? There is shops you can buy card and lots of internet caffee shops accross the country. you can get a phone card or use call boxes. Q. Will I be able to speak English with people.? Yes English Language is widely spoken accross the country. Q. What security precautions should one take on safari.? Are there any requirements regarding vaccinations on my safari.? Yes! Vaccination requirements change from time to time and we suggest clients consult their local doctor or health department for the latest health precautions. Malaria : Malaria including Plasmodium falciparum exists in certain areas. All clients must consult with their own MD or the Center for Disease Control regarding the use of anti-malarial tablets prior to departure. There are many brands available and we recommend that clients consult their doctor or health department as to which brand they should take. Q. How much luggage can I take on safari.? The limit is one soft luggage bag per person with a maximum weight of 10 kg (22 lbs.). (Camera equipment is excluded from the foregoing.). No hard (i.e. Plastic/Samsonite) suitcases may be taken on safari. Only back packs without frames will be permitted. As luggage is packed on the roof racks of the safari vehicles it is recommended that clients use old or inexpensive luggage. Also note that should you not strictly adhere to the luggage restrictions you will be responsible for any additional cost arising out of the transportation of any excesses. Q. What kind of safari clothes should I pack.? As you are travelling on a partly accommodated safari you will require clothing for evening wear at the various hotels and lodges. The emphasis is however on comfortable, casual and semi-casual wash and wear clothes. Please note that bright colours are not suitable for gameviewing. Please take note that game drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon at which times (especially in the winter months) it can be very cold. Q. What kind of insurance should I take out for my safari trip.? Comprehensive travel insurance is compulsory on all Afro Ventures safaris. Please ensure that your insurance covers cancellation and curtailment, personal accident, medical and baggage.The policy taken out should provide world-wide coverage. International clients should purchase insurance prior to their arrival in Southern Africa.
